Through the Enlightenment era's struggle and much suffering, "the individual" finally appeared. During this period, Francisco Goya created his well-known "The sleep of reason produces monsters" masterpiece. Sapere aude! "Have courage to use your own reason!"- was the motto of the Enlightenment era. Self-incurred is this tutelage when its cause lies not in lack of reason but in lack of resolution and courage to use it without wishing to have been told what to do by something or somebody else. Tutelage is a person's inability to make his/her own decisions. Many people still remain in the bondage of self-incurred tutelage.
